Name: Amy and Elizabeth Lord
Home: Portsmouth, NH
Occupation: Financial Education
What bikes are we riding? : Specialized Vita hybrids
Favorite bike route: Route 1A, along the coast between Hampton and Rye, during the day, during the week when it isn't as crowded with tourists and sun seekers.
Most prized bike accessory? : For Elizabeth it's her saddle - she went through a bunch of them to find just the right one. For Amy it's the shoes and the clip less pedals - being clipped in has revolutionized riding!
Helpful hint for other women bicyclists?: Amy says, just do it. Overcome any fear, ask for help/advice and just get out there. You'll feel better about yourself for even trying - and you'll be lapping everyone on the couch! And wear a helmet!
Elizabeth says be prepared. Know how to change a tire. Wear a helmet, and invest in ways to make your bike riding more comfortable (padded bike shorts will change your life)!
Why we ride: Just for fun, we asked a colleague what he was doing after his last Ironman triathlon and he said, "the Maine Lighthouse Ride, you should do it." We hadn't ridden in at least 10 years and when we bought our bikes we couldn't even ride one mile. At this point, we have four days (September 12) until we will be riding our first metric century (62.5 miles)! We ride because we have fallen in love with cycling. We just need to find a way to have a longer, spring, summer, and fall because neither one of us enjoy the cold weather and snow.
