Seacoast Area Bicycle Routes Inc. (SABR) was originally formed in May 1992 by a small group of individuals living in and around the Seacoast region of New Hampshire. SABR's goal, both then and now, has been to promote safe and effective bicycle transportation networks in the Seacoast region of New Hampshire and Southern Maine.
From the beginning SABR has always been an all-volunteer group, and we have poured our time and passion into local bicycle advocacy as we have grown and evolved over the past two decades. We have a strong core of dedicated individuals and members, and we would like to do more for cycling in the Seacoast.
The Seacoast region is a fantastic place to ride a bicycles. The terrain here is relatively flat. We've got great scenery - arguably the most beautiful coastal rides on the Atlantic Seaboard. There are both benefits and challenges: small horse-drawn carriage roads built over four centuries are now called upon to ferry modern cars and trucks, leaving narrow shoulders for cyclists. The benefits, though, are great: the majority of vehicular travel takes place on I95, and Routes 1 and 16, leaving a labyrinth of quiet country lanes posted with 35 mph speed limits.
