Greetings from the SABR Board, here at the tail-end of summer!
Been on any good rides lately?
One of us rode in and out and along Gloucester's coast and ended up at the Long Beach Dairy Maid with a Maple Cremee.
Another of our board members has biking tales from his trip to Scotland (coming to our blog as soon as he edits the saucy bits).
We're thrilled to have received a very generous donation from Portsmouth Smart Growth! PSG recently disbanded after over a decade of activities and advocacy, and its board selected SABR and one other nonprofit to receive their remaining funds. PSG's mission to create a vibrant, sustainable, and walkable community aligned well with that of SABR, and we plan to put their donation to good use!
We welcomed two new board members. At our August meeting, Kirsten Kautz and Paula Lewinski joined the SABR Board of Directors. Prior to their arrival, two members left the board: Gerry Duffy, a biking outreach specialist and outgoing vice president, and Jonathan Blakeslee, our social media muse and Mr. Coffee Outside.
Thank you for your dedication to SABR and safe, accessible, and enjoyable biking, Gerry and Jonathan!
Additionally, Kean McDermott of Dover was elected vice president of the SABR Board. More details here >>
Thank you.

To celebrate another big milestone - 300 bicycles distributed to individuals on the Seacoast since March 2024 - SABR and our Seacoast Pedal It Forward (SPIF) program held its second open house August 7th.
Thank you to all who made this possible, including our generous donors, our volunteers, and community outreach partners.
Are you interested in volunteering, but not sure if SPIF is the place for you? Besides the mechanical work, our volunteers help with recordkeeping, write grant requests, and work with partner organizations to match people to bikes.
If you are interested in doing bike repairs, we’ll provide training.

SABR ADVOCACY EFFORTS
Portsmouth - The Portsmouth City Council has approved a new Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan, but disappointingly has not supported the recommendation in that plan for a dedicated Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee to support implementation.
Right now there are opportunities for public input in the City Master Plan and the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).
Many bike/ped requests to the CIP over the past two years have been put on hold “pending approval of a new Bike/Ped Plan,” so now is the time to meet as a group to discuss priorities and make sure there is progress.
Email info@seacoastbikes.org to get involved.
NHDOT's 10-Year Transportation Improvement Plan for 2027 – 2035 will be open for input soon. The Governor’s Advisory Commission on Intermodal Transportation (or GACIT) public hearings happen every two years and set state-level transportation funding priorities. These start in September; email us at info@seacoastbikes.org if you want to help.
