SABR News - November / December 2025

Updated: Nov 27, 2025

Thanksgiving Greetings!

The weather has officially shifted towards winter chill. While biking may not be quite as enticing this time of year, we know many SABR supporters layer up and pedal on. So if you're one of those folks, join Saturday November 22nd at 10 AM for our November Coffee Outside social on Four Tree Island in Portsmouth.

We plan to continue our string of monthly Coffee Outside gatherings in 2026.

Please mark your calendars for January 12, when we will hold our Annual Meeting from 6 - 7:30 at the Portsmouth Public Library. We've got lots to talk about and planning to do for 2026, and we're counting on seeing you then!

Do you have a bike to donate? Looking for a volunteer opportunity? SPIF is here for you! We meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings to work at Port City Makerspace, and accept bicycle donations at that time, too.

Did you know...we refurbished and passed along 10 bikes in October and November?

At times we offer donated bikes for sale to support the program, and will have 10 bikes (listed here) on display at the Makerspace Winter Market December 6th.

We can use outreach help (pairing bikes with people and agencies) and are looking for local storage for completed bikes that will go out in the spring-- let us know if you have any leads! Contact us at SPIF@seacoastbikes.org | seacoastbikes.org/SPIF.

Our Spooky Slow Roll in October drew riders of all ages, several of whom rode in costume! We pushed out from Hannaford's parking lot, stopped at the Port City Makerspace to see our Seacoast Pedal It Forward program at work (and to borrow a few bike lights). The group then rode to several historic Portsmouth cemeteries  where SABR board VP Kean McDermott shared stories for just the right amount of spooky! We ended up at Otto's Pizza in the West End for camaraderie and food.

SABR Advocacy Efforts

NHDOT's 10-Year Transportation Improvement Plan for 2027 – 2035. New Hampshire DOT updates its 10-year plan every other year, led by the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Intermodal Transportation (GACIT). Public hearings were held around the Seacoast in September and October to discuss projects to be designed/funded/constructed in 2027-2036.

Matt and Kean rode together on the Seacoast Greenway to one of the hearings, where they joined a large group of people advocating for speedy completion of the Greenway through Hampton and Seabrook.

We remain engaged in local city and town efforts as well, and if you have a minute to speak up for biking at the national level take a look at this campaign from the League of American Bicyclists.

This SABR donor benefit program is part of a national program that encourages bike riding. Participating businesses provide discounts or rewards to cyclists who display a BB sticker on their bike helmet.

Banya is a social wellness thermal spa that brings people together around the practice of contrast therapy. We combine hot saunas, cold plunges, a cedar hot tub, mocktail bar, and relaxed gathering spaces

so guests can sweat, chill, and connect with themselves and others.

The resilience you build in the sauna and plunge shows up well beyond Banya. Contrast therapy is like teaching a stiff nervous system how to be more flexible. Research supports that contrast therapy can improve your brains ability at flipping the switch from “on alert” to “at

ease.”
