Summer Cycling and SPIF - July/August 2025

Updated: Sep 1

ree

Greetings! We hope you've been able to get out and cycle some new as well as familiar routes this summer (now that every weekend isn't a washout)! Do you have a favorite you'd like share or perhaps help lead a ride on it? Let us know!

Many thanks from the SABR Board and bike riders throughout our communities!

We've pedaled to another milestone: SABR and its Seacoast Pedal It Forward (SPIF) program have distributed more than 300 bicycles to individuals on the Seacoast! These bikes offer reliable transportation and independence and access to those who receive them.

So please come and celebrate this milestone with us, and learn more about the program and the people who keep it running!

On Thursday, August 7 from 5:30 - 7 PM, come to the Port City Makerspace for our second SPIF Open House at 68 Morning Street (lower back lot), Portsmouth. RSVP here

We're deeply grateful to our volunteers, partners, and community members who make this program possible. Questions? Contact us at SPIF@seacoastbikes.org and seacoastbikes.org/SPIF.

Seacoast Pedal It Forward (SPIF) refurbishes donated bikes and offers them to those in need of transportation, along with a helmet, bike light and lock. Learn more about SPIF.

WONDERING WHERE TO RIDE?

ree

Find cycling route inspiration on this page where we've shared some of the routes we have used for group rides from 5 to 60 miles.

If you plan to drive and park at the start in a private lot be sure to always check with the business first.

We'd like to give a shout-out to Fredric Gluck, our ace webmaster, for updating this page and all the other pages on the SABR website. We appreciate his expertise and ideas!

Happy Riding!

SABR ADVOCACY EFFORTS

Portsmouth - Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan update. SABR has been part of the advisory committee for this project. The draft plan has been presented to City Council. Read the plan here. We suggest starting with the recommendations on page 77 (or 86 in the pdf) if you are short on time. Besides recommending priority routes through the city, it makes non-infrastructure recommendations such as creating a Bike/Ped Advisory Group. SABR’s Portsmouth Advocacy group will meet to discuss feedback; email info@seacoastbikes.org if you’d like to join!

Dover - Bicycle Friendly Streetscape Guidelines were approved at the June 2025 meeting of the Dover Transportation Advisory Commission. Look for some moderate streetscape improvements for non-motorized transportation in Dover.

State/NH Department of Transportation - A Complete Streets Policy for New Hampshire has been approved. This means that where appropriate, when the NHDOT re-designs roads they own they must consider active and public forms of transportation. It’s a huge step forward for getting the “connective tissue” of networks between municipalities built for cyclists, pedestrians and transit riders.

NHDOT's 10-Year Transportation Improvement Plan for 2027 – 2035 and the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Intermodal Transportation (GACIT) public hearings and solicitation of input. The public input for this bi-annual process that sets the transportation funding priorities for the state is likely to begin in September. We will put out ways to get involved as we learn more about this process.
