Eliot Active Transportation News

From Jeff Brubaker, Town Planner, Eliot Maine

State-Beech Active Transportation and Infrastructure Project

You can find the updated design (per DOT review) here. The Select Board will receive an update on the project at their meeting on Thursday, Feb. 26, 5:30pm.

Next steps

With continued community support, working with DOT, we expect to complete the design + R/W phases (already grant-funded) in 2026-27 and be ready to build the project as early as 2028, if construction grant funding has been secured. We will continue to work closely with DOT, Southern Maine Planning (SMPDC), and other partners to secure grant funding covering at least 80% of the construction cost.

New Open Space Plan

The Conservation Commission has completed the Open Space Plan update, and it has been endorsed by the Select Board! You can find it on the Conservation Commission web page. Among many strategies for conserving Eliot’s farms, forests, and natural areas, the plan includes recommendations for improving paths, trails, and sidewalks.

Eastern Trail Study complete

You can find the final Berwicks to the Border Eastern Trail Feasibility Study (2025) here! Eliot is in Study Area 2.

Walking and bicycling to Town Hall

Have you been to the newly-renovated Town Hall? There is a new sidewalk and crosswalk from State Rd. and new bike racks. A reminder of warmer weather not too long from now. In the meantime, we’re grateful for Eliot’s plow crews keeping the roads clear.
