Luke Costello, a graduate student in the UNH School of Social Work, was awarded the SABR-SPIF Volunteer Scholarship August 25, 2026 for his exceptional work as a SPIF volunteer.

This annual cash scholarship celebrates the outstanding contributions of SPIF volunteers while encouraging the next generation of community service. The financial award can be used to help offset the costs of pursuing academic and vocational programs.

Costello, 29, has been volunteering with the Seacoast Area Bicycle Riders’ Seacoast Pedal It Forward (SPIF) program for two years, sharing his expertise in repairing bikes as well as serving as a liaison to bike donors and to bike recipients.

In recognition of his devotion to the all-volunteer program and carrying out the SPIF mission, Costello was named the first recipient of SABR’s Student Volunteer Scholarship, which provides a cash award for use toward student expenses.
